Mantis Rigging Nodes

Mantis rigging nodes is a node-based rigging tool for Blender, enabling the user to create custom rigs, organize them into reusable components, and build up new rigs by composing multiple components together. The addon is free and open source software, available as a Blender Extension. The Component Pack

The component pack is my personal library of rigging components, developed alongside Mantis to check and stress-test the capabilities of the node system. It contains a complete humanoid character rig, ready to customize to your specific character.

Here is a list of the components:

  • Advanced IK/FK Arm: An IK/FK Switching arm with controls for IK Stretch and IK Parents
  • Advanced IK/FK Leg: An IK/FK Switching arm with heel roll, controls for IK Stretch and IK Parents
  • ArmatureDeformKeepVolumeBlend: Sets up armature deform with a vertex group to mix between turning keep volume on and off
  • Calculate Pole Vector Matrix: A matrix math utility for calculation the matrix for the Pole Vector bone in an IK chain
  • Custom Object Translation Along Bone: Places a Bone's custom object along the bone at a given point.
  • Finger: Creates a Control bone to automatically curl the finger joints
  • FK Switch Spine: A Spine with a switchable pivot in either the hips or shoulders.
  • Glute-Deform-Improver: Creates a deform bone that improves the deformation of the glute muscle
  • Hand: Creates a hand with four fingers, a thumb, and a control for the palm.
  • Head and Neck: Creates a head and neck control with a switch to control rotation inheritance
  • Head Neck and Face: Creates a head and neck with a bone-based facial rig.
  • Helper Joint: Blends between two bones to smooth out the deformation between them - good for elbows and knees.
  • Helper Joint Keep Volume: A Helper Joint with an extra feature - keeping the volume as the joint bends. Great for elbows.
  • mouth_simple: A simple bone-based mouth rig
  • Movable-Pivot Spine: A spine rig with an adjustable pivot point.
  • Multi-Parent Switch: A Schema to produce one parent constraint per input bone.
  • Negate Inheritance: A node which makes its child bone act as if it has no parent.
  • Pec/Breast: A component which connects the chest to the shoulder, creating a realistic stretch motion. This is not a "jiggle rig".
  • rotation copier: A utility to create a bone which converts a world-space rotation to a local-space rotation.
  • Scale Bone Matrix Length: A utility to scale a bone
  • Simple Object: A node to add a new object to the scene.
  • Simple Spine: A basic FK spine component with a pivot in the hips.
  • simple_eye: A simple eye and eyebrow component.
  • SimpleBBoneControl: A pair of controls that create a highly flexible BBone spline.
  • SkinnedObject: A utility to add a new skinned object to the scene.
